Cerrone Supernature

As promised, here’s some more Cerrone goodness for your listening pleasure. Supernature was the title track from Cerrone’s third album. It’s a 10 minute electro-disco adventure that details the dark side of man’s relationship with science. It’s a sci-fi dance track that’s part freak out, part boogie-down break and part critique on the prospects of genetic engineering.

Meet Tom Moulton

Tom Moulton Alrighty Funk Deli fanatics, it’s time to get back to this whole Disco December thing. Today we’re gonna take a look at one of the most important and influential record producers of the disco era. Tom Moulton is a legend. The man is responsible for remixes, 12-inch singles and the ever-popular disco break phenomenon. A true audiophile and lover of funky music, Tom Moulton created his own brand of music production techniques. Any record that bears the label “A Tom Moulton Mix” is gonna be sick. It’s that simple.

When it comes to extending breaks, tweaking frequencies and building a bigger, better sound for disco, Moulton is a true wizard. The guy’s touched up 1000s of records in his day and he’s produced some seriously upbeat and funky disco tracks. From his work at the Salsoul disco label with bands like Instant Funk, First Choice, Double Exposure and O.R.S., to his classic remixes of B.T. Express and MFSB and The Andera True Connection, Moulton is a true disco propagandist. He spread the good word about disco before anyone knew what the genre was suppossed to be. Although he was never an actual DJ, Moulton is perhaps the most influential music producer in the history of disco music. Read the rest…

Italo Disco -- I-Robots

At Funk Deli, we promote all things worthy of a funky label, because let’s face it — there’s just not enough funk going around anymore. Now when it comes to music, Funk Deli isn’t limited by the constraints of one genre. Sure we love James Brown, the Bar Kays and other classic funky acts, but at Funk Deli, we think that other forms of funky-like tunes also deserve some love.

Well, we love disco music, and we’re not afraid to say it. Disco gets a bad rap, but there are some quality disco gems out there that deserve to be featured in your iPod, on your turntable or in your CD player during your ride to work.

A Brief History of Italo Disco

When disco was dying in the States, it found new life in Europe. Euros have always had a soft spot for disco grooves. And really, who can blame ‘em? Read the rest…

Rediscover Your Old Mix Tapes

Funky Music, Music Downloads No Comments

Remember all those funky mix tapes you collected in the mid-to-late 90s? Funk Deli does. At Funk Deli, we used to have stacks of sick house music mix tapes from all kinds of DJs.

Yea, mix tapes were fun. Problem is, there’s no use lugging cassettes around anymore. As music technology marched forward, the mix tape was left behind. So many timeless mixes have been relegated to the bottom of storage boxes. Even if someone felt the urge to break out the old tape decks and push hard on those boom box buttons, it’s still gonna be a challenge to track down all those old funky cassettes. Read the rest…
