Produced by ad agency 180 Amsterdam, this cool claymation commercial is sure to turn some heads. More than thirty people worked on recreating Dassler’s workshop. It took over a month to build. To top it all off, German actor Jurgen Prochnow (of Das Boot fame) adds Deutsch-flavor to the narration.

Here’s a bonus Zapp and Roger video of a live performance of “Computer Love” in Aruba. For all those funksters who love the talk box sound, watching Roger work his magic on stage is certainly a treat. The guy knew how to work a crowd. It’s so sad that the Troutman brothers musical journey had to end with the bizarre murder-suicide deaths of Roger and Larry on April 25, 1999.

This SF Weekly article details the tragic day when Larry shot Roger and then turned the gun on himself.

Here’s a live video of Zapp and Roger performing “Dance Floor.” With vocoder vocals making a massive comeback (check out Snoop’s “Sensual Seduction” video in the funky video section), it’s nice to get some original talk box love from the dudes who first popularized the sound. Zapp and Roger are often imitated, but rarely do the new-school takes on their signature sound live up to Zapp’s original funky jams.

In the early 80s, the music in Motown took a techno turn. This clip from “The Scene,” a local Detroit Soul Train-like program, highlights one of the classic techno tracks that came represented the new sound well.

In early 1981, “Shari Vari” by A Number of Names was one of the first tracks to come out of the emerging Detroit techno scene. The track was produced by two guys — Sterling Jones and Paul Lesley — who were obsessed with Italo Disco and the experimental, drum machine-heavy stuff that was hitting on the airwaves in Detroit.

This clip features some crazy dance moves and wild fashion choices. Feel free to get down to the track however you like.
