In the early 80s, the music in Motown took a techno turn. This clip from “The Scene,” a local Detroit Soul Train-like program, highlights one of the classic techno tracks that came represented the new sound well.
In early 1981, “Shari Vari” by A Number of Names was one of the first tracks to come out of the emerging Detroit techno scene. The track was produced by two guys — Sterling Jones and Paul Lesley — who were obsessed with Italo Disco and the experimental, drum machine-heavy stuff that was hitting on the airwaves in Detroit.
This clip features some crazy dance moves and wild fashion choices. Feel free to get down to the track however you like.
DJ Marc Langsman puts out eclectic mixes that blend together different music styles into one seamless composition. Smitten By Funk is just one example. This mix is pure entertainment from start to finish. There’s chill portions, head bobbing sections and contemplative transitions. Anytime a DJ can drop in “Bare Necessities” from the Jungle Book in stride and on point, you know you’re in for a treat.

When it comes to breakin’ things down on the dance floor, some people are naturally funky. Other people need some help. If you’re dance moves could use a little guidance, here’s a free dance lesson from the Godfather of Soul himself…
They didn’t call him the Hardest Working Man in Show Business for nothing. Now get out there and practice your robot. The next time you’re at the club or at a party, you can break out your new moves and have a funky good time.
Thanks Mood Mosaic for pointing out this sick video clip.
