See George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in Malibu and Las Vegas

Funkadelic

For all you funk fans out there who want to see the Mothership in person, here’s your chance. George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic will be playing in Malibu at The Malibu Inn on February 15th. Clinton and his remaining p-funk all-stars will follow the Malibu show with a concert at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on February 16th. Hit up Ticketmaster to score tickets that start at $26.50 each.

George Clinton George Clinton is one of the most innovative funk artists of all time. With all due respect to James Brown, funk music wouldn’t be around without the oddball funkster from North Carolina with the wild hair. Clinton went through doo wop and psych-rock before developing the fundamental funk roots that would deeply influence an entire generation of musicians. Clinton’s contributions go beyond the origins of funk. Without George Clinton, there’s no Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg or G-funk era. The Red Hot Chili Peppers could never claim a funk connection with out the help of Clinton. Sampled music wouldn’t get as much love if it wasn’t for artists like Clinton who encouraged producers to lift, mix and recycle p-funk loops to make a new musical creation. Go and see the guy. With so many friggin’ people on stage delivering the goods, you can’t go wrong with a George Clinton/P-Funk performance.

And, while you’re at it, check out George Clinton’s homepage. It’s as out-of-this-world as the spaced-out funk man himself. Often imitated but never repeated, George Clinton is a performer that you just have to see in person.

Meditation Pod Chair

Funk Deli respects the need to clear your mind on an ongoing basis. Though we’ve tried mediation many times, we’ve never really given it a fair shot to take hold on a daily basis. But honestly, finding inner peace is no joke. With just a little bit of effort, you can refresh your mind, achieve mental clarity and obtain a greater understanding of yourself and how you fit into the universe.

Dragon Flavor T-shirt by Chow Hon Lam

The Funk Deli crew was flipping through t-shirt websites last night, and we came across a sick t-shirt site. Threadless.com is loaded with unique, funky t-shirts that feature original artwork from tons of hip artists.

Check out this Dragon Flavor t-shirt from Chow Hon Lam at Threadless.com.

It’s just one example of the poppy-funk designs you’ll find on the site. Some of the coolest shirts were no longer in stock, but the site is updated constantly with new designs.

We wanted to pick up this hilarious Communist Party t-shirt, but unfortunately, it was out of stock.

Fresh New Balance Shoe - Brown Nubuck

Brown Nubuck New Balance Shoe

The Funk Deli crew caught these fresh Brown Nubuck New Balance Shoes while strolling through the shopping malls of Manila. For $2900 Phillipine Pesos (about $72 bucks), the price seemed a little steep. We thought it best to wait it out so we could head online and check for a better price. Sure enough, it wasn’t hard to find.

OnlineShoes.com is selling the same Brown Nubuck New Balance shoes for $49.95
.

Which means something interesting — everything (everything) in the Philippines is cheaper than it is anywhere else. $500 pesos can last you a day, and once you realize you’re spending $12.33, you start to want to live it up a bit. Shoes just cost way more for some reason. We’d love to hear a crafty, macro-economical explanation as to why.

But relax on the impulsive buying. Just wait till you get home, and look on the Net for the best price. At Funk Deli, we’ll do our best to share all the funky bargains we come across.
